I was wondering what this interesting spoken word piece I heard on your show was. It was the one RIGHT before Matt Haimovitz – After Reading Shakespeare Cello piece and right after the song “Fortunately, Unfortunately” by Gonzales. This spoken word piece was on “The Signal with Laurie Brown” on CBC-2 at approximately 10:45-10:50pm EST on July 29th, 2008.

The piece consisted of a number of short words that sounded similar. They went something like, “Ubu sucks. Ubu slurps from punch. Ubu gets drunk.”

Any information on that artist would be excellent as I would like to purchase their spoken word cd.

    Thanks so much,

    Hi Lisa,

That piece you’re referring to is writer Christian Bok reading from his book Eunoia. “Chapter U,” to be exact. Each chapter of this very cool book of poetry only uses one vowel in all its words – so there’s an A chapter, an E chapter, and so on.

    Cheers,
